The tables
Why the pair is rated this way
The Horse and the Goat are one of the six harmonies (六合), the pairs the classical tables say combine. 午 and 未 are next-door neighbors on the circle of twelve, one yang and one yin, which is part of why they fit.
The Horse is a fire sign and the Goat an earth sign. In the generating cycle fire makes earth, so the Horse is read as the one who supports and the Goat as the one who grows from it.
The Horse rules the summer month that starts around Jun 6 and the hours from 11 am to 1 pm; the Goat rules the summer month that starts around Jul 7 and the hours from 1 pm to 3 pm.
For comparison, the Horse's harmony partner is the Goat and its trine partners are the Tiger and the Dog; the Goat's harmony partner is the Horse and its trine partners are the Pig and the Rabbit.

In love, friendship and work
Traditionally the Horse is energetic, sociable and independent, and the Goat is artistic, kind and sensitive. The Horse tends to bring enthusiasm and look for freedom; the Goat tends to bring care and creativity and look for reassurance.
In love, a six-harmony pair is the classic easy match: the two branches are said to combine into something new, so the bond tends to feel natural rather than negotiated.
As friends or co-workers the support tends to run one way, so it helps when the one who gets it gives something back.

Check two birth years
A zodiac year starts in late January or February, not on January 1: Chinese New Year calendars switch at Lunar New Year, and saju switches at Lichun, around February 4. If you were born in January or early February, you may belong to the year before.
Beyond the birth year
On Bias Match the animal that counts most is not the birth year but the day branch, the animal in each person's day pillar. If two people's day branches are Horse (午) and Goat (未), the compatibility calculator scores that check as a full plus, next to five other checks.
